10 Tips For HSPT® Test Day

  1. Get a good night’s sleep. Don’t cram the night before.

  2. Eat a good breakfast so you have energy and don’t get hungry during the test.

  3. Plan to arrive early to the testing location to avoid rushing or being late.

  4. Bring two pencils with you to the test. If you would like water and a snack for the break, you can bring that with you as well.

  5. Before the test begins, you will fill out a scantron answer sheet with your name and other details. You will also indicate on your scantron which high schools your scores should be sent to. These will be the high schools that you have applied to.

  6. Watch your pacing. The start and end times are generally made clear, and there should be a visible clock in the room. Also, the test administrator will announce the halfway point of each subtest.

  7. Read each question carefully and answer every question. Don’t get stuck on difficult problems. If you are unsure of an answer, take your best guess and move on. There is no penalty for answering incorrectly, so never leave any question unanswered.

  8. Check your work. If time permits, go back and review your answers. Once the time is up for a subtest, you cannot go back, so use all your time wisely.

  9. If you have questions or concerns during the test, do not hesitate to ask your proctor.

  10. Take deep breaths and stay confident in your abilities. Relax and do your best!
